Fleet Mechanic - Brandon, MS

Salary Range:$25.00/hr - $35.00/hr


To provide safe, reliable and cost-efficient vehicles by performing quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs as well as performing expert diagnosis and repair as required to prevent breakdowns on road, reduce vehicle down time and improve total fleet reliability.

Essential Functions

  • Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance inspections on vehicles and equipment (Tractors, Trailers, Aerial Devices, Digger Derricks, Trenchers, Crane Trucks, Skid Steers, Mini Excavators, Wire pulling and Tension Trucks, Light Duty Vehicles and any other company owned equipment) to maximize the safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet to include, but not limited to Annual Inspections and to diagnosis and repair
  • Perform maintenance repairs on all vehicles such as inspections, scheduled repairs, malfunctions and road-call repairs in a safe, efficient, and quality manner, addressing all Driver Vehicle Inspection Report write ups timely, efficiently and correctly the first time, diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications including but not limited to engines, transmissions and clutches, drive-line, differential, steering and suspension, fuel and ignition system, exhaust systems (including regeneration systems), intake systems, electrical systems, brake systems, HVAC systems and Hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Document all work performed using Complaint, Cause, and Correction Format


  • Basic Knowledge and skill of all vehicle systems and Components
  • Basic knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of electrical systems on all equipment
  • Basic knowledge and skill in welding and cutting (gas, electric, MIG, TIG)
  • Moderate computer skills and knowledge
  • Expert knowledge of all DOT (FMCSA) Regulations
  • Moderate knowledge of OSHA safety regulations
  • Moderate knowledge of environmental regulations
  • Vision abilities to include Close & Distance vision, color, peripheral vision, depth perceptionand ability to adjust focus
  • Self-motivated and have the ability to multi-task

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.   The position requires the ability to climb up to and onto elevated equipment.  The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina.  Must have the ability to hear long distances, see long distances and differentiate between colors, and have depth perception.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 50 hours per week. This position frequently requires long hours and weekend work.  MUST be willing to travel for storm recovery, length of stay will depend on volume of work.


Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.  Out of area and overnight travel will be dictated by power outages and damage due to hurricanes, Ice Storms, Tornadoes, etc.

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or Equivalent (GED)

Preferred Education and Experience

• Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training 2 year school

• Annual Inspector Certification Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Brake Inspector Certification Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Current and Valid Driver’s License, CDL-A required

Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)
