Commercial/Industrial Journeyman Electrician - Brandon, MS

Summary/Objective

An industrial electrician installs, services and repairs wiring, conduits, fixtures and other electrical devices and systems in an industrial or commercial setting. Industrial electricians may work in different industries. They often work primarily either in maintenance or in construction, and their specific duties may depend on the employer. All work performed by an industrial electrician must meet the regulations of the National Electrical Code.

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems.
  • Panel wiring, construction and installation.
  • Read technical diagrams and blueprints and interpret specifications and drawing.
  • Perform general electrical maintenance.
  • Inspect transformers and circuit breakers and other electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing devices.
  • Repair and replace equipment, electrical wiring, or fixtures.
  • Follow NEC state and local building regulations.
  • Circuit breaker corrective maintenance.

Competencies

Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations

  • Install, examine, replace or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance
  • Maintain, repair, install and test switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators and reactors
  • Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, alternators, industrial storage batteries and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical and electronic control systems and other related devices
  • Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records
  • May install, maintain and calibrate industrial instrumentation and related devices.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to outdoor elements.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position must have the ability to lift heavy objects weighing at times up to 100 pounds and carry that weight a minimum of 20 feet on a regular, recurring basis. Must have the ability to walk over uneven, steep, or difficult terrain for distances of over one mile on a regular, recurring basis and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. Must be able to carry 25 pounds of gear while working in an aerial lift device with a weight limit of 350 pounds.  The employee must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to climb up to and onto elevated equipment and stand for long periods of time.  The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina. Must have the ability to hear long distances, see long distances and differentiate between colors, and have depth perception.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 40 hours per week or Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 50 hours per week. This position frequently requires long hours and weekend work.  

Travel

Employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work hours will be adjusted to meet the needs of the business and may include weekends.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License
  • Minimum of 3 yrs. relevant work experience

    Preferred Education and Experience

  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Completion of a technical training apprentice program
